Sailing the Boat of Life
I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it - but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.~ Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
While going through my daily dose of motivational reminders, I came across this wonderful quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes, and couldn't stop myself from marvelling the simplicity and beauty of these words. There is a difference between mere drifting and sailing the course of your life. While drifting can be easy, it is aimless and certainly wouldn't make you see any difference in your life. You leave your life on chance; if its a gorgeous island that you land on, you call it mere luck, whereas in cases of crisis like thunderstorm you curse your fate.
Sailing purposefully, involves taking control of the path you have chosen and determinedly following it, irrespective of whether the conditions and circumstances are in favor of you or against you. And that my friend is what will take you to the port of your bliss; the heaven that you've been seeking for so long.
